Diana King (2nd August 1918 – 31st July 1986) played the chairwoman in the Dad's Army episode The Loneliness of the Long Distance Walker.
Biography[]
Early life and career[]
Diana King was born in Buckinghamshire in 1918.
Early acting career[]
Diana had always wanted to be an actress, so she went to the Fay Compton School of Dramatic Art. She made her first screen appearance in the 1939 film, Little Ladyship. During WWII, she performed for various rep companies in places like Buxton and Petersborough and appeared in many more other cinematic films. After the war she continued to do more stage work and in 1956 made her television debut in the ITV Play of the Week, Yellow Jack.
Dad's Army[]

By this time, Diana had appeared many different situation comedies and in 1969, she played the Chairwoman in Dad's Army's third second season episode, The Loneliness of the Long Distance Walker. In the radio version of the aforementioned episode, Diana's part was played by Judith Furse.
Other acting work and later career[]
Diana also played Frank Thornton's screen wife in three episodes of David Croft's other sitcom, Are You Being Served?.
Final years and death[]
Diana Bishop died of cancer in Nettlebed, Oxfordshire, July 31st, 1986. She was 67.
